The Sarawak government has launched a comprehensive RM1.1 billion initiative to replace its aging water pipelines by 2030, enhancing infrastructure resilience and efficiency. Premier Abang Johari announced this project at the 2024 Borneo International Water and Wastewater Conference, highlighting that modern digital monitoring systems will be integrated to detect leaks and manage water usage in real time.

This overhaul is part of Sarawak’s broader strategy to incorporate smart water management technologies, such as smart meters and innovative wastewater treatment solutions, to optimise water conservation and operational sustainability.
